Joseph of Arimathea brings together modern research, ancient legends, and unique storytelling to trace the journey of Joseph of Arimathea from England to Palestine as he performs an annual pilgrimage there. During this particular trip to Palestine, Joseph's world is turned upside down by the political crucifixion of Jesus at the hands of his enemies. Joseph, with his friend Nicodemus, buries Jesus's body according to Jewish ritual. For this, Joseph is himself arrested, but he is delivered from imprisonment by the risen Jesus. As an ardent believer in and follower of God's chosen one, Joseph plays a vital role in establishing the early church and its subsequent missionary movement. After fourteen years in Palestine, Joseph returns to England as a missionary. He is sent there as the first bishop to England and Wales, where he later builds a church at Glastonbury. Joseph carries to England the silver chalice and silver plate used during the Last Supper, along with a staff fashioned from the crown of thorns placed on Jesus's head. Including a detailed appendix includes some of the surviving descendant lines of the two children of Joseph of Arimathea and his wife, Anna, Joseph's story provides a fascinating account of some of the most precious historic Christian artifacts.

Not Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, but Joseph of Arimathea, younger brother of Joseph and uncle to Christ. Learn the details of Jesus' missing 18 years (from the age of 12 to the age of 30), as he travelled with his uncle to Britain to oversee the vast holdings of tin and lead on ships owned by his uncle. Joseph of Arimathea, Nobilis Decurio, Minister of Mines, the Roman term for a high official in charge of metal mines. Tin and lead, mined in Cornwall, lifeblood of the Roman arms industry. All of our lives, Christians have been taught in the simple ways of the people of Galilee and Nazareth. Not so. This area was the cross roads of trade between the Mediterranean and the eastern and western provinces of Rome. Joseph of Arimathea travelled extensively between his tin and lead holdings in Cornwall and other areas of the know Roman world on ships he owned or leased which were needed for his business. Joseph of Arimathea, member of the Sanhedrin and Roman citizen and member of the Jerusalem senate, who argued for the acquittal of Jesus only to be out maneuvered by Caiphas and Annias who charged Jesus with high treason before Pontius Pilate. Cross reference and check every detail from other works and information available on the Internet and you will be astounded. Christians, learn the history of your Church! Inform yourselves.

The author listed this book as fiction because verifiable facts have long since been lost in the distant past. However I found this man to be up front in pointing out the facts that are now unknowable. Also, I believe as he said, he has taken all verifiable historical and biblicale accounts and created a very believable story of a man who undoubtably played a more important role in the complete understanding of Jesus of Nazereth. I think many of his interpretations are worthy serious study and consideration. There are too many stories and accounts of this wealthy business man who had opportunity, means and motivation as a direct family member to have been much more involved in these events reguarding the crucifiction of his nephew. Both prior to and after the death of Jesus, there is also much history including Joseph's membership in the San Hedrin and his efforts to change their perception of who Jesus was. This book is filled with things that most Christians have overlooked in their studies and I feel my overall understanding of this tragic event has been greatly enhanced by this book.

I am not finished reading this yet, but having been to Glastonbury Abbey, in Glastonbury, England, and learning about Joseph of Arimathea in a class I took about 10 years ago, I am thoroughly enthralled with this book. I absolutely give this book 5 stars. (10 times over, if i could!!!)

This is an interesting read, but the poor editing works against the author's ambition.

I know the author personally and had heard parts of this story before. It was so interesting that I used this story as my program for our ladies' church group last year. My husband and I have both read this book and thought it was wonderful and very timely since Easter is about 4 weeks away. I have already had copies shipped to my children.
Christians are under attack everywhere and need to hear inspiring Bible stories more. I am also ordering his other book.[[ASIN:1426958331 Joseph of Arimathea: The Man Who Buried Jesus

I so enjoyed this read, especially so close to Resurrection Day!! It makes Christ's last days so "real" to the reader and knowledge that we had no clue. Bought one for my daughter too. Totally recommend this to believers. Will be reading it over and over.

He was clearly a nearly unsung player in the whole pageant and no doubt played many other roles which we'll never know about until we meet him in heaven.

I'm about 80% completed this book. I wish that Mr. Cruikshank had not treated this presentation as a 'novel', but I can understand why he did it (or at least I think why he did it)...He doesn't have many citations for the data that he provides. As important as Joe A was to the history of the life of Jesus, I would think he should have provided better proof of his (genealogical) information. It would have been interesting as I, too, can trace my family tree back to Bran the Blessed, the king of the Siluria. My Silurian ancestor was Arivagus, the cousin to King Caradoctus, both leaders of the Siluria tribe against Emperor Claudius. Neither side could get the upper hand in their many battles, so they made a truce. Arivagus married Venicia, daughter of Emperor Claudius, which turned out to be good for both leaders. The chart Rev. Cruikshank provided on page 54 was somewhat difficult to follow. However, I did enjoy reading this book. And, it does open the door somewhat to the life of Jesus between the age of 12 and 33.
