Rome, AD108—What, or who is the mysterious Satyr of Capri? Rare statue, man, or monster? Why do danger and death stalk all who are connected with the elusive secret? New friends and lovers Quintus and Rufio are unwittingly embroiled in the quest for the truth. From the mansions of the rich to the teeming underbelly of the world’s mightiest city, braving the violence and tasting the sensuous pleasures thrown at them, the boys risk all to unravel the secret of the Satyr. Plunge into the world of imperial Rome—debauchery and cruelty, envy and greed, grisly legends and disaster beneath the cliffs of Capri, undercover deals and urban gang warfare—for a rollercoaster ride bursting with sex and action. Strait-laced patrician Quintus’s lofty worldview falls to Rufio’s carefree lifestyle, while Rufio revels in the dangerous, bloody adventure. Will their burgeoning relationship survive the inescapable lure of the Satyr of Capri? Find out in this hot sequel to Deadly Circus of Desire. “Who does this enormous amount of research for a trashy erotic pulp novel about Imperial Rome? Kean does! And that makes this novel into a real treasure. There is a mystery that is so compelling it should be in some dark, hard-boiled crime thriller.” Rick Russell, Goodreads

Zack is well known as a gay artist, but the pen name is also shared with his prartner Roger M. Kean. After careers in film, journalism, magazine publishing, and historical reference publishing, Kean settled down to pen gay fiction. Writing as Zack, the “Boys of…” series extends to five full-length illustrated novels. The Adventures of American Gil Graham and Brit Mike Smith are set in the early 1980s, all published by Bruno Gmünder in paperback and ebook formats. By the same publisher Zack has written BLOOD AND LUST, THE WARRIOR’S BOY, RAW RECRUITS and DESERT STUDS. Already published in the "Boys of Imperial Rome" series are DEADLY CIRCUS OF DESIRE and THE SATYR OF CAPRI, with THE WRATH OF SETH due in August and TWISTED BLADE IN THE ARENA in the spring of 2017. Under another pseudonym, Bruno Gmünder recently published Zack/Kean’s pulp fiction novels MISSISSIPPI HUSTLER and a story of 1950s Hollywood MULHOLLAND MEAT.

He lives in a medieval town on the borders of Wales with his lifelong partner.

Well, I have to say that I think I hate Zack! Seriously. I am so annoyed that this book was so much damn fun and so infuriatingly entertaining. So entertaining in fact that it was down right exhausting to read. I mean, this is pulpy erotica right? Who does this enormous amount of research for a trashy erotic pulp novel about Imperial Rome? Zack does! And that makes this novel into a real treasure. There is a mystery that is so compelling it should be in some dark, hard-boiled crime thriller. There is romance and political intrigue and glimpses of daily life in imperial Rome. Just when you think you've got this genre-defying narrative figured out some new element gets added to mix, just to keep your interest peaked. This is non-stop action and adventure as only Zack can deliver and he does so once again. I just realized I forgot to say anything about the gorgeous art! See! That's what is so wrong about this book: there's too much to love and enjoy that you can't even remember to praise everything that you love and enjoy! Argh! It's so frustrating! I am all but breathlessly waiting for the next epic and erotic adventure with Rufio and Quintus in the pages of the upcoming sequel The Wrath of Seth.

Drawings are of course super hot. Wish there were more. (about 30, some 1/3 to 1/2 page, over 320 pages.) Story is fun, well written. A bit overly descriptive of locations and surroundings, not enough interaction between characters. Still, a fun read.

No artwork, the artwork was basically the reason I bought this.

The earlier editions of this title, published by Bruno Gmunder, have wonderful interior illustrations by Zack. I bought this paperback under the assumption that it had them, but it doesn't. When I got the book, it stated on the copyright page that this was a "text-only" edition. I wish it had stated this on the Amazon page.

This is the 2nd book in the trilogy, be sure to read Deadly Circus Of Desire first. This series of books is one of the better set of books by Zack. Be warned the book contains graphic descriptions of male to male sex, so it this is not your thing don't buy the book. The book also has some explicit drawings, which is the norm for Zacks book.
