Editorial Reviews

Review

"This fantasy novel is one of those books that takes you by the hand, winks, and leads you into a spellbinding adventure, making you forget everyday life.
J.V. Hilliard is one of those authors, rare today, who crafts his world with meticulous care and lush imagination. His style is well-developed, the narrative flow and pacing well-crafted. Hilliard neglected nothing and, thus, created a fantastic setting, so vivid that it isn't only cinematic but made me feel I was riding to Thronehelm, sailing around the Horn of Seabrooke on the way to Castleshire, and sipping the Queen's Nectar—the best wine in Warminster. ...
The good news is The Last Keeper is the first book in The Warminster series. The bad news is that sleepless nights await everyone reading this magical tale full of battles, sorcery, magical weapons, strange animals and races, and common folk with uncommon traits, ready to sacrifice themselves to save someone or to stab their own kin in the back. Hilliard's story brimming with bravery, love, hate, madness, and spite will absorb the readers so much that closing the last page and facing the real world may seem like a shock."
- Book Fairy ★★★★★

"This wonderfully detailed medieval fantasy tale is filled with dramatic action and adventure. The characters are well developed and easy for the reader to connect with. The story's pace is intense and keeps you on your toes the entire time. I was always wondering what would happen next and found this book to be unpredictable." - Literary Titan ★★★★★

Born of steel, fire and black wind, J.V. Hilliard was raised as a highlander in the foothills of a once-great mountain chain on the confluence of the three mighty rivers that forged his realm's wealth and power for generations.

His father, a peasant twerg, toiled away in industries of honest labor and instilled in him a work ethic that would shape his destiny. His mother, a local healer, cared for his elders and his warrior uncle, who helped to raise him during his formative years. His genius brother, whose wizardly prowess allowed him to master the art of the abacus and his own quill, trained with him for battles on fields of green and sheets of ice.

Hilliard’s earliest education took place in his warrior uncle’s tower, where he learned his first words. HIs uncle helped him to learn the basics of life—and, most importantly, creative writing.

Hilliard’s training and education readied him to lift a quill that would scribe the tale of the realm of Warminster, filled with brave knights, harrowing adventure and legendary struggles. He lives in the city of silver cups, hypocycloids and golden triangles with his wife, a ranger of the diamond. They built their castle not far into the countryside, guarded by his own two horsehounds, Thor and MacLeod, and resides there to this day.

The Last Keeper by J.V. Hilliard is the first book in the Warminster series. It is classified as a Nordic myth and legend fantasy type of books. I think this is a great book for young adults who love fantasy and elf stories. For those who like Lord of the Rings – I do believe you would also enjoy this book as well. The characters are all very interesting, and there is some good action throughout the story to keep it fast paced and enjoyable. I felt like the writing itself was good, and there were no major mistakes or grammatical distractions from the story. Finally, I am a huge fan of the front cover art. It looks so mysterious and magical and enticing all at once!

"The Last Keeper" by J.V. Hilliard is a captivating dive into a fantastical world filled with rich characters, prophecies, and looming evil. This first installment of The Warminster Series promises a gripping adventure and delivers it in spades.

At the heart of this tale is Daemus Alaric, a young man who, despite being blind from birth, possesses the extraordinary gift of prophetic sight. Daemus is a Keeper of the Forbidden, tasked with using his unique ability to thwart the malevolent plans of Graytorris the Mad, a fallen Keeper. The blend of Daemus's vulnerability due to his blindness and his formidable gift creates a compelling character who plays a pivotal role in the fate of the realm.

Princess Addilyn Elspeth, an elven diplomat, embarks on her journey from the hidden realm of Eldwal to the human capital of Castleshire. Her path crosses with that of Daemus, setting in motion a series of events that will test their resolve and their bond. As their individual stories intertwine, the ominous presence of an evil force grows, casting a shadow over the realm.

Hilliard's storytelling is reminiscent of classic fantasy tales like "Lord of the Rings," offering a meticulously crafted world filled with depth and enchantment. The characters are well-developed, and their interconnected stories unfold seamlessly, drawing readers deeper into the narrative. The emotional depth of the characters adds richness to the story, making their struggles and triumphs all the more impactful.

While the plot takes some time to fully unfold, the pacing is deliberate and allows for intricate world-building and political intrigue. The action scenes are a highlight, delivering excitement and suspense that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

"The Last Keeper" is a masterfully executed work of classic fantasy that will delight fans of epic adventures. Hilliard's storytelling prowess shines through, offering a blend of prophecies, magic, and intricate character dynamics that make for an engaging and immersive read. If you enjoy fantasy tales with rich world-building and complex political drama, this book is a must-read.

J V Hilliard – The Last Keeper

My Review

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👋

Spice: 🌶

Pages: 419 Pages

Genre: Fantasy

The book is incredibly well written. Excellent world and character building. If you love fantasy you will love this book and series! This is the first book in the Warminster Series. Every imaginable fantasy creature is included in this book. My favorite that I’ve never seen in other fantasy books or series is a black unicorn!

You are first introduced to Graytorris a fallen keeper who seeks revenge. Daemus Alaric (Keeper of the Forbidden) a seer but was born blind. You then meet Addilyn Elspeth, an Elve who teams with Daemus to stop the evil that is trying to destroy the keepers, and Ritter, a knight also joins the fight. All of these characters have their own interesting story and are very well developed. You will follow and learn about them as they each fight their own battle against Graytorris to save the world from darkness.

You are going to have to read the book to find out if they are victorious in defeating Graytorris or if he lives to continue his wrath.

This book is fast paced, intriguing and well written. I’m anxious to start Book 2 – Vorodin’s Lair. I consider this a must read book for fantasy lovers. Especially if you are a Lord of the Rings fan.

Book: The last keeper
Author : J.V Hilliard
Rating: 5 /5

The last keeper changed into an engrossing ebook which had all the elements one wishes in an excellent myth. The author has provided it very super . It's need to have a take a look at ebook. This book is the first book of amazing series. There are three main characters of this book who are totally different from others and story also follows every one simultaneously in the same timeline. Who doesn't like to witness a full - packed adventure with tremendous magical elements. This book is an escape from reality which has thrill and fantasy to your psycho. It's the first part of the series ' The warminster'. And I must say the first part is blasting enough to crew for the next part . And so ,the blinded man shall pass through the fog and walk on the water. Third & last main character of story is my favorite and definitely will be yours too. He sis silter of valkeneer , who's a trollborn knight ,half Elvin, half human . He had a loyal falcon who he communicates and strategies with.

Some stories are so diligently crafted that they will keep you hooked from the very start. This is one among the many. The fictional world created by the author was so extra-ordinarily penned that one cannot easily straw away. The story revolves around Daemus, Ritter and Addilyn. Daemus is blind since birth but fate has gifted him a unique power to see the prophetic sight, Princess Aadilyn is encountering mystical creatures during her journey, and Ritter is the knight. Daemus is the Keeper, but the recent threats from the evil forces are raising an upsurge. To stop Graytorris, someone needs to hold therein. What will happen in the end? is destruction inevitable?
All the characters were gracefully sketched, with everyone having their depth their personality trait. The flow of the story is so well maintained. The strategic development of the plot was truly commendable. If one is into fiction, then this book is there must pick. I will be waiting eagerly for the next book in the series Warminster. Because some endings are not an ending yet.

This is a competently executed work of classical fantasy. I enjoyed the action scenes quite a bit. It does take some time for the main plot to get going, and for the three major POV characters to intersect. But if complex political drama in a fantasy setting is your jam - think Game of Thrones - then you can't go wrong with this book. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars An intersting read !

The Last Keeper is the first book in The Warminster Series. I’ll start by saying that this author’s writing style is lovely, the prose flowing well with no hang-ups. The story setting was nicely described, and the world was well developed. The beginning was a little slow for me and it gradually took its own pace which made the reading easier. The plot revolves around the main protagonists Daemus, Ritter and Addilyn. Where Daemus Alaric is born blind but at the same time, he is also blessed with an eternal vision where he gets to sense the warnings about the rise of evil.

The opening few chapters had things that confused me though they were later explained. The language is simple and lucid, and the plot is narrated extraordinarily well. The cover is creatively designed, and the title makes good sense to the story. The dramatic cliffhanger at the end has me anxious to learn what happens in the next book of the series. To sum up, it is an enjoyable read and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

Daemus is a human lad and a Seer. Addilyn is the daughter of an Ambassador, she is a vermillion elf. Ritter is half human and half elf, he is a warrior.

This is a fantasy story and I did find the beginning was rather slow paced and drawn out.

There were so many characters and I did find it confusing trying to remember which character was which.

Once it picked up, I did find it to be action packed and full of adventure.

I’m looking forward to reading the second book in this series.
