Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Gino Wickman, bestselling author of Traction, has a passion for helping people get what they want from their businesses. To fulfill that passion, he created the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS), which helps leaders run better businesses, get better control, have better life balance, and gain more traction—with the entire organization advancing together as a cohesive team. Wickman is the founder of EOS Worldwide, a growing organization of successful entrepreneurs collaborating as certified EOS Implementers to help people experience all the organizational and personal benefits of implementing EOS. He also delivers workshops and keynote addresses.

Thomas J. Bouwer has a passion for helping entrepreneurs and their leadership teams simplify, clarify and achieve their vision. In addition to starting and running three of his own companies in Turkey, Tom has worked with a diverse range of companies from start-ups to Fortune 50 companies. His nearly three decades of global management and consulting experience in multiple industries help him quickly identify and solve chronic issues that keep a company from achieving optimal success. As a teacher, facilitator and coach, Tom spends most of his time as a Certified EOS© Implementer—helping leadership teams implement EOS in their companies. He earned his B.A. from Hope College and MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. When not delivering EOS workshops or keynote addresses, Tom is most likely walking his dogs or hiking in the mountains.

Don't drink the kool-aid
EOS is a cult, literally feels identical to those "RAH RAH RAH" MLM orientations, but at least you can walk out on those as soon as you see things for what they are. EOS grabs these business owners, mostly younger generational owners, feeds their egos by making all of this sound like their idea, and once implemented it's too late. Your company will develop "core values", and they will let you know up front that if you don't align with those core values you will be terminated after a set time of unsuccessful corrective action. The different departments will be given "leaders" who they decide are "right person in the right seat", and these leaders are not permitted to go against each other, disagree with one another, or call out another's short comings in view of their department subordinates. All communication from your department to another must be relayed through your "leader" to their "leader". When failures occur, or inevitable break downs of communication, your different departments will begin to "silo" as they call it. This is a dangerous position for the company, and this is where the real damage begins to slowly eat away at the core of what was once a great business with good potential and will metastasize into complete and total breakdown. As the walls start closing in, good people who prior to EOS would've never done so, are now throwing blame into another leaders/departments lap. The ENDLESS meetings that were designed to replace endless meetings just devolve into your group whining about their group and then your LeAdEr is supposed to take these concerns to their leader and the cycle continues. IDS they call it, Identify - Discuss - Solve. Nothing related to this silo effect gets solved, these are human beings, with human emotions, not pieces in on a Tetris board that just need EOS to flip them around to fall into line. This is the part where your glorified social media influencer with no actual business credentials they call a "facilitator" will convince you that the people who are now pushing back simply don't believe in the core values. Corrective action is taken and fails, and next thing you know you are losing people left and right, who now work for competitors. If you see this book laying on your bosses desk, put in your notice right then and run. If you are a business owner thinking up implementing this trash, remember these words... you will lose good people, and you will be so deceived by this MLM cult type nonsense that you won't even care. After parting ways with this disastrous and soul crushing scenario I had an opportunity with a much larger company in a different field, pay was a significant step up, company car, great benefits, etc. During the interview I was asked, "Do you have any questions for me?" I did. I had a few. The first question out of my mouth was "Are you familiar with EOS/Traction?". When he responded that he was very familiar as they had implemented it just some months back, I politely thanked him for his time and told him I was no longer going to be interested in continuing the interview. Here is a common thread... "implemented EOS some months ago" has a direct correlation to "now hiring". Avoid.

I will definitely be reading this book a few times. Lots of great information and tactics that can easily be applied to anyone running a small business. We have started working on some of the 6 areas suggested and are looking forward to seeing the improvements in our company.

We ordered this for our whole entire team after implementing the traction operating system. This book is a condensed version of traction and a quick read (under 3 hours). It’s a great option to bring others up to speed with Traction. The audible and kindle version were helpful for some employees.

I never read this book because I had already read traction, and thought that was good enough.

As the CEO of a fast growing company, I can say that this book gives even more detail on certain EOS tools than Traction does.

This book also gives great context on how to talk about EOS with the rest of the company.

Highly highly recommend!

It’s hard for me to be negative about this book because the concept of the EOS program have inspired a wonderful change in how my company is run. We were assigned to read the book to help us understand the process behind the changes. The book was a simple concept fleshed out with fluff, over promises and repetition - not for emphasis but to take this from a pamphlet to a book. I like EOS a lot but not because of its presentation here.
